How to add additional owned domains
Your project's main website decides which cited pages count as yours. If your company also owns other websites, such as a product brand, a regional site on its own domain or a company you acquired, add them as additional owned domains. Citations to those domains then count as your brand's citations too.
Add a domain
- Open Preferences > Competitors and select the pencil on the highlighted Your brand row. You can also open Preferences > Project Settings, stay on General Information and select Edit brand tracking.
- Find Additional owned domains.
- Type the website's own domain, such as
example.com, and select Add. Repeat for each domain. - Select Save.
If an entry cannot be saved, the editor stays open with everything you typed and says which entry was refused and why. Remove or correct it and select Save again.
Only the account owner can make this change. A project can have up to 10 additional owned domains, and the saved list appears in Project Settings under Brand Detection.
You can also set the list through the API with PATCH /api/v1/projects/{id} and the field additional_owned_domains, or with the MCP tool update_project. Send the full list each time, because it replaces the saved one, and send an empty list to clear it. Only the account owner can change it this way too: a team member's API key or connection is refused.
How domains are matched
- Each domain counts as a whole: every subdomain and page on it is yours.
- If you paste a full URL, LLM Pulse saves only its domain. For example,
https://www.example.com/newsis saved asexample.com. - The Citation scope rule of your main website (whole domain, exact host, or host and path) applies only to the main website.
What you cannot add
- The domain of your main website.
- The same domain twice.
- A subdomain, such as
blog.example.com. The domain itself already includes all of its subdomains, so addexample.cominstead. A help center or blog under another company's domain, such asacme.zendesk.com, cannot be added at all. A site with its own domain on a hosting platform, such asacme.github.io,acme.myshopify.comoracme.blogspot.com, is not a subdomain and can be added. - A platform that many companies share: social networks such as
youtube.com,facebook.comorlinkedin.com, community and review sites such asreddit.com,wikipedia.orgortrustpilot.com, search engines, marketplaces such asamazon.comorebay.com(in any country), and blog or site hosts such aswordpress.comorgithub.com. Counting one would count every company's citations there as yours. Your social profiles, channels and apps are tracked separately as Owned Media. - A domain that one of your competitors uses. If that website is yours, move the competitor to your domains as described below, or remove the competitor first.
- More than 10 domains.
The reverse applies too: a domain on this list cannot be added as a competitor. If you change your main website and add the old website's domain here in the same save (for example oldbrand.com, which also covers shop.oldbrand.com), the old domain stays owned and is not kept as a competitor.
These limits apply only to this list: your main website or a competitor can still be one of these platforms.
Your other website is tracked as a competitor
If you have been tracking a website your company owns as a competitor, for example an acquired company, you can turn it into an additional owned domain in one step:
- Open Preferences > Competitors.
- Open the menu (...) on that competitor's row and select Move to your domains.
- Check what the confirmation says and select Move to your domains again.
What changes:
- The competitor's whole domain is added to your additional owned domains, with all of its subdomains. If the competitor tracked only one host, such as
shop.example.com, the list getsexample.com. - Past citations of that domain are reprocessed and count as yours, the same as when you add a domain yourself.
- Ads, shopping products, local businesses and brand entities on that domain become yours. Ones linked to the competitor only by its name are no longer attributed to it.
- The competitor is removed, as if you had deleted it: its mentions, share of voice and sentiment history are deleted, and its competitor slot is freed.
- Its brand name and matching names are not added to yours. If mentions of that brand should count as yours, add them as matching names in the brand editor.
Only the account owner can do this, and not from an embedded portal. It is not offered for a competitor that tracks a single path (its Citation scope shows Exact host + path) or one on your main website's domain or on a platform many companies share, and it cannot run while the competitor or the project is still being processed: try again once that finishes. If another competitor tracks the same domain or part of it, such as shop.example.com next to example.com, remove that other competitor first, then move this one. It is also refused when the domain cannot be added for one of the reasons above, for example when your list already has 10 domains.
How the domains appear in charts
- Citation charts name your series after your main domain plus the number of additional owned domains it includes, such as
example.com +1. That series counts citations to all of them. The same label appears in the AI Models table, its exports and custom reports. - The Overview Citation rate chart shows each of the top cited domains as its own line. Your main domain uses your project color, and an additional owned domain among them keeps its own color with (You) after its name.
What happens after you save
- Only the past answers that cite a domain you added or removed are reprocessed, in the background, so citations to the new domains count as yours across your history.
- Your history stays visible while this runs. Each day's citation metrics update in one step once that day is reprocessed, so no day shows empty in the meantime.
- Ads, shopping products, local businesses and brand entities on those domains follow too, so they show as yours (or stop showing as yours) on the same pages as your citations.
- Until all of this finishes, the brand tracking editor says your last change is still being applied and its Save button stays disabled. The General Information, Brand Book and Owned Media tabs of Project Settings do not save changes either, and neither do project updates through the API or MCP: you are asked to try again once it is done. If saves are still refused after a few hours, contact support.
- Changes to this list do not use the 7-day limit on changing your main website, so you can update it at any time.
- Brand mentions do not change. Mentions still come from your brand name and matching names, so add the other brand's name as a matching name if mentions of it should count too.
- Removing a domain reprocesses citations the same way, and its citations stop counting as yours.
